Welcome to River Boat Days

Schedule of events
RIVERBOAT DAYS 2012: Friday, August 3 to Sunday, August 12

Thank you to all the event organizers, sponsors, the media, government agencies and individuals who make Riverboat Days such a success. A cloudy, cool and wet July in 2011 tried to intrude on the start of Riverboat Days but the spirit of the Skeena could not be broken. And by the time the last chord was played at the Riverside Festival and a new crest pole raised at Kitselas Canyon, it was a summer celebration to remember.

In 2011 the program offered for the first time more than 50 events, providing a huge range of fun and affordable entertainment and educational opportunities. New events included a chainsaw carving contest, a Youth Battle of the Bands, a fish hatchery tour, and chalk drawing and traditional games events, both held outside in parking lots. It was a year of centennials: 100th year of the townsite's first survey, 100th year of the Terrace Inn, and 100 years for the railway car which houses the model railroad. All were celebrated in events or displays.

Starting the August long weekend, Riverboat Days is an entire week to share the history, the culture and simply the unequalled natural setting around Terrace. The longstanding crowd-pleasers of the Legion Parade, the Fireworks over Ferry Island, the Riverside Music Festival, Beach Blast Volleyball and Concerts in the Park never fail to please. Once again Sight & Sound Audiotronic and its co-sponsors brought the best of the region's bands to the stage at George Little Park, capped with an amazing headline act: Juno award winning Honeymoon Suite! For the 2011 Concerts line-up, select the poster below. At the Metis, Riverside Festival, Cree musician and artist, Ed Peekeekoot, brought standing ovations.

So for 2012 encourage that young child to enter the Kiddies Parade, sample delicious fare in the "Tastes of Terrace" tour, enter a team in the Riverboat Days Slo-Pitch Tournament or gather at Ferry Island for an educational Interpretive Walk led by local forestry professionals. From quiet and reflective art exhibits to loud and fast auto racing, that's Riverboat Days.

On this website one can still find the 2011 Events Schedule by clicking the button on the right. Registration Forms for 2011 Riverboat Days Events, for George Little Park Vendors and for the Legion Parade can found under "Riverboat Days 2011" in the menu in the left column. Look for the online 2012 registration forms around April and the first 2012 events program in early July. We also provide other resources online to help you plan your Riverboat Days, including a location map, daily event list and event list arranged by target audience and themes. At any time, we encourage you to discuss your ideas with members of the Society Executive for new events or suggestions to make Riverboat Days even better. The Executive is listed on the "About Us" page. If you don't know any of these people, you can get contact information through the George Little House or Terrace Recreation Department. We are always open to new members of the organizing committee.
